Alabama softball wins series against Kentucky

University of Alabama softball wrapped up its series against No. 8 Kentucky Sunday, the Crimson Tide won the series, but lost the series finale at Rhoads Stadium, 9-4. Alabama’ record is currently 24-4, 3-3 SEC, while the Wildcats are 20-5, 1-2 SEC. Montana Fouts suffered her first loss of the season in the finale, making her 13-1 on the mound.

The Crimson Tide won the first two meetings, 4-2 and 3-2 due to excellent pitching by Fouts and Lexi Kilfoyl. Kilfoyl tied her season high with seven strikeouts in the second game. Alabama is now 54-12 all-time versus Kentucky, including 27-6 when they play in Tuscaloosa. Sunday’s game marked the fifth time this season where the opponent scored first and the first time Alabama has lost when its opponent scores first.

Ashley Prange extended her hit-streak to five games, going 7-for-14 with five runs scored and four RBIs over the streak.

Fouts earned her 700th strikeout over the weekend, becoming the sixth player in program history to hit the mark.

The Tide will travel to Birmingham March 23 to take on the UAB Blazers, first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
