ALABAMA SOCCER FALLS TO VANDERBILT ON SENIOR NIGHT

Alabama soccer lost to Vanderbilt 2-1 on senior night in the regular-season finale.

The three seniors honored were Nealy Martin, Chloe Maize and Alex Plavin.

Despite a push from the Crimson Tide, the Commodores scored twice in five minutes. Vanderbilt’s Paola Ellis scored both goals, first in the 11th minute, then again, in the 15th minute. Alabama Junior Casey Wertz responded in the 23rd minute with an unassisted goal.

“Our game from here on out is a one-game season,” head coach Wes Hart said in a press release. “We play Auburn, which is a matchup that I love to play and got to believe they’re going to be excited about that too. It should be a fun first round in Orange Beach. We’re going to put this one behind us and move on.”

Alabama outshot Vanderbilt 14-11 with four on frame. Wertz and freshman Macy Clem led Alabama with three shots each. Both the Crimson Tide and the Commodores earned five corner kick opportunities.

Freshman goalkeeper AJ Crooks had six saves.

The Crimson Tide improved from last year finishing (9-6-3), one more win from a year ago, two fewer losses and an equal amount of ties.

Alabama will face Auburn in the First Round of the SEC Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 3, at 1 p.m. CT. The Crimson Tide enters the tournament a No. 7 seed, while the Tigers are a No. 10 seed.
