ALABAMA SOCCER BEATS NORTH TEXAS TO EARN FIFTH WIN
The Alabama soccer team defeated North Texas 3-1 yesterday at the Alabama Soccer Complex to improve its season to (5-2-1).
The freshman came out strong and made a quick statement for the Crimson Tide. Reyna Reyes scored her first career goal early in the 4th minute. Then in the 33rd minute, Carly Wyatt recorded her first career goal with a beautiful header.
Sophomore Riley Mattingly scored her fourth goal of the season in the 59th minute before North Texas scored its first and only goal in the 76th minute.
“It’s great to be back at home,” head coach Wes Hart said in a press release. “The road was great for us in a sense that it just took us out of our comfort zone. Obviously, we have five SEC games on the road, and to be able to win games on the road is important, so it was good practice for us. I think what we showed ourselves is we can play on the road and be successful.”
The Crimson Tide outshot the Mean Green 17-10, freshman Carlee Giammona led the team with three shots and junior goalkeeper Alex Plavin totaled three saves during the match.
Alabama is slated to play Arkansas on the road in Fayetteville, Ark. Sunday, Sept. 22. Faceoff is at 2 p.m. CT.
