TUSCALOOSA – Alabama scored a patriotism ranking of 13 on a list of states created by consumer website WalletHub.

To identify the country’s patriotic hotspots, WalletHub compared all 50 states across eight key metrics, including measures such as military engagement, voting habits and civic education.

Alabama ranked 1st in civics education requirement, 5th for military enlistees in 2013, and 13th for number of veterans per 100,000 people. But, the state’s poor voter turnout in 2016 undermined Alabama’s overall score, only ranking 30th in percentage of residents voting in the last presidential election.

Virginia topped the patriot list while New York found itself at the very bottom. You can find WalletHub’s complete breakdown of state-by-state patriotism here..
