The University of Alabama’s homecoming week is just around the corner, meaning one lucky student will head home after the game next weekend with a brand new crown and the homecoming queen title.

Students vote for their favorite candidate Oct. 19, and the five students with the most votes will be on the homecoming court, announced the next day.

In years past, homecoming court candidates were primarily women who are affiliated with older sororities on campus.

This year, the group is a lot more diverse. One popular candidate is Alabama softball pitcher Montana Fouts. You can see the full list of candidates and their personal statements right here.

Students said they’re looking forward to finding out who makes the cut.

“I think it all depends on who feels like they are confident enough to run,” said UA graduate student Madison Midyett. “Sometimes you will see more sorority girls or more involved women, but I think this year with athletes running and other people on campus running, I think it will be pretty diverse.”

Homecoming week features events each day ahead of the UA-Tennessee game Oct. 23, and homecoming queen is crowned at halftime.
