Alabama football lands No. 1 running back for 2025 season

Nick Saban and Co. landed their fourth blue chip prospect in the 2025 class over the weekend.

The class’s top-ranked running back Anthony Rogers committed to the University of Alabama Friday over Georgia, Auburn, Florida and Oregon. His commitment keeps the Tide in the realm of catching Georgia, which is off to a hot start, for the nation’s top 2025 class. Rogers joins wide receiver Ryan Williams and offensive lineman Mason Short as the team’s third Top 100 player in the class.

The 5-foot 8-inch, 185-pound running back gave his commitment to Saban on a visit Thursday, joining a long line of the Crimson Tide’s success at landing top running back recruits. The Tide now stands No. 2 in the nation in 247 Sports’ composite team rankings. Rogers gave 247 Sports reporter Steve Wiltfong reasoning of why he eventually settled on Alabama especially this early in the process.

“I’ve always liked Alabama since my first visit,” Rogers said. “I just felt like it was the place for me to be and I felt like it was time for me to make that decision. I love the environment. It’s just a chill, cool environment. I like how the program is ran and how everybody has to work for what they get.”

The popular recruiting reference website is has high praise for the rising junior, already comparing him to elite college backs like Texas A&M’s Devon Achane and Ohio State’s J.K. Dobbins.The line of Crimson Tide running backs is extensive and continues to be a significant recruiting point for Saban when pitching the top backs year after year.

Rogers joins incoming five star freshman, Justice Hayes, who scored three times in April’s A-Day game, as the most recent names to be added to the list of blue chip running backs who landed in Tuscaloosa.
