Alabama football fans express elation at being back in stadium

Saturday was the first home game of the season for the Alabama Crimson Tide, and Bryant-Denny Stadium was a packed house in comparison to the anemic in-person stadium capacity from 2020.
As in years before COVID-19, thousands of fans packed the stadium, the quad, the Strip, downtown Tuscaloosa and beyond ahead of, during and after the Tide’s clash with Mercer.
Bama fan Porter Litty came out with his wife, daughter and granddaughter. It was their first time back in Bryant-Denny since 2019.
“We normally have gone to these games for I don’t know how many years,” Litty said. “Last year, like so many others, we didn’t come because of the pandemic. We had to come because we are so excited to have a full-capacity crowd and getting to see everyone and watch our football team.”
Stadium rules required masks in indoor areas including bathrooms, suites and shopping areas, but not in outdoor areas including the stadium bowl.
