ALABAMA DEFENSIVE LINEMAN’S SURGERY DEEMED A SUCCESS

Alabama will be without preseason All-SEC defensive end LaBryan Ray for a significant period after he reinjured his foot during the South Carolina game.

Ray underwent surgery Tuesday and will be out indefinitely. However, there is a chance he could return this season, maybe even in time for the Crimson Tide’s matchup with LSU. Both teams are likely to be unbeaten and it’s a game that will have significant SEC implications.

With Ray out, freshman Justin Eboigbe is listed as Ray’s backup on Alabama’s depth chart. The Crimson Tide could have five true-freshman in its defensive starting lineup on Saturday, a feat that has never happened under Nick Saban.

Ray posted seven tackles and a sack in Alabama’s first two games and then had two tackles against South Carolina before the injury.
