Alabama’s coliseum replacement plans up against price hikes

The rising cost of just about everything is holding up the University of Alabama’s plans to replace Coleman Coliseum.

The proposed new $183 million arena was approved in February by the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees. It will feature more than 10,000 seats, a larger student section and brand-new premium and club seating.

Athletics Director Greg Byrne said the system is still forging ahead, but there might be changes.

“We have been dealing with record inflation,” Byrne said. “We have been back to the drawing board as far as what does that looks like.”

Once completed, the arena will be used for men’s and women’s basketball alongside gymnastics.
