Tuition is likely rising again at the University of Alabama, after a Board of Trustees committee today approved an annual increase.

The move is going up for the full board’s vote Friday, and would increase tuition by $150 for full-time in-state students and $500 for full-time out-of-state students.

Several new buildings will be appearing or replacing older ones around campus in the coming years. Among the changes:

  • A new freshman dorm will be going up next to Lakeside Dining on the University of Alabama campus. The new dorm will necessitate the demolition of Somerville Hall.
  • A 1,555-space parking deck will be built behind Tutwiler Hall next to Bryant-Denny Stadium.
  • Tutwiler Hall itself will eventually be replaced with a new dorm, but not until the parking deck is built.

University of Alabama trustee James Willson said the changes at Tutwiler will displace some parking during its construction, and will impact game days.

And cheers today from UAB officials, as they got the green light from the board for their proposed $22.5 million football operations building, which will feature an indoor practice field and private viewing stations.

UAB athletics officials said they’ve been through tough times over the past few years, but they’re thankful they’ve had the support and encouragement from Blazers fans.

UAB Vice President for Financial Affairs Allen Bolton said at the meeting that more money has been raised for UAB athletics in the past 12 months than in the past 12 years.
