Alabama beats Auburn for third straight Iron Bowl win
Alabama beat rival Auburn, 49-27 in the 2022 Iron Bowl. This is the third straight year Alabama beat its rival. Alabama finishes the regular season 10-2, earning double digit wins for the 15th consecutive year.
This year’s Iron bowl also served as senior day for the Crimson Tide. Alabama honored 17 seniors in a pregame ceremony. In the past four years Alabama has won 46 games, two SEC titles, two college football playoff appearances and a national championship.
“It’s great to win the Iron Bowl for our players. It’s great that they won ten games. I think one of the things I’m most proud of is the fact that, when everybody thought they were out of it and there was a lot of naysayers out there, that this team didn’t give up on themselves and they didn’t give up on each other. They kept fighting and won some tough games to finish the season,” said Alabama head coach Nick Saban.
Alabama’s last home game of the season could be the last college football game for Junior Quarterback Bryce Young and Junior Linebacker Will Anderson Jr., as they are expected to declare for the National Football League (NFL) draft after the season.
Interim Auburn head coach Carnell “Cadillac” Williams has now coached and played in the Iron Bowl. He says despite the loss, he feels a personal achievement of being the first Black man to serve as a head coach in the rivalry game that is more than 100 years old.
