Alabama baseball expected to hire Maryland assistant coach

Alabama Baseball is expected to hire former Maryland assistant coach Anthony Papio to a full-time assistant position on new coach Rob Vaughn’s staff.

Papio, who played and coached at Maryland, has spent the last two seasons at Maryland as a full time assistant coach. Papio was the first base coach and the main running game coach at Maryland according to the schools athletics website.

Papio played at Maryland from 2012-2016 before becoming a student assistant. He became a full time assistant in 2022.

Papio is the second full time assistant coach announced to new head coach Rob Vaughn staff. Jason Jackson will continue to be the Tide’s pitching coach and serve as the new Associate Head Coach. Jackson spent the final two months as Alabama’s Interim Head Coach, Helping guide the program to its first NCAA Super Regional appearance since 2010.
