A total of 165 basketball teams took part in the first-ever Alabama High School Athletic Association basketball camp at the Finley Center in Hoover this past weekend.

The camp featured over 100 boys basketball teams and close to 70 girls basketball teams and gave high schools and athletes a chance to showcase their skills in front of college coaches.

“It helps our teams get some quality games in the summer, also have college coaches watch them,” said AHSAA Assistant Director Devin Booth.

Each team was guaranteed to play four basketball games, with a total of 660 games played at the Finley Center.

“It’s fun playing different teams from different parts of the state, different styles,” said Central High School head coach Willie Moore. “We played four games in two days, and gave us the experience to play against different competition, against teams we don’t see every day.”

All AHSAA members’ schools were eligible to participate in the event.
