After local family loses home, veterans step up and help

House Fire

By WVUA 23 News Reporter Aajene Robinson

On Tuesday, a house fire in Elrod left the Nichols family without a place to call home.

While Tabitha and her three children Jesse, Hayden and Haley were not home at the time of the fire, they lost nearly everything in the blaze. One small miracle? A neighbor was able to save their pets.

But the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6022, where Tabitha works, is stepping up and helping the family get back on their feet.

They are requesting donations of shoes, clothes, blankets and dog supplies for the family. Needed sizes include:

  • Women’s small shirts
  • Women’s pants sizes 2-4
  • Women’s shoes size 7.5
  • Girls clothes size 7-8
  • Girls shoes youth size 1
  • Toddler size 11 clothes
  • Boys shoes toddler size 3

Donations can be dropped off at the VFW, 7001 University Blvd. E. in Cottondale.

The family also has a GoFundMe page for monetary donations. You can find that right here.
