UPDATE: Tuscaloosa Police Department’s Lt. Teena Ricahardson says one suspect is in custody, and all the hostages have been released.


University of Alabama officials say there’s an active situation at the Alabama Credit Union at 220 Paul W. Bryant Drive, adjacent to the University of Alabama campus.

Authorities said the situation began about 8:30 a.m. They do not know how many people are inside the building.

Businesses around the credit union are being evacuated, and traffic is being rerouted around Paul W. Bryant Drive.

The bank was not open, and police said they do not believe it is a robbery.

UA is urging anyone in campus buildings near the area to stay indoors, and that those nearby are encouraged to stay away from the scene.
