Academy Sports has the goods: If Bama wins, you can pick up a shirt tonight

For some Crimson Tide fans, National Championship night is also the night to stand in line at Academy Sports and Outdoors so they can be among the first to pick up that sweet, sweet merch.

As in years past, the store gets its shipment of championship shirts ahead of game day. They’re guarded ahead of the game not unlike the Harry Potter books were before their release, but WVUA 23 got a peek at the boxes that won’t be opened unless the University of Alabama comes out on top against Georgia tonight.

But if they don’t?

“We ship them right back off,” said Academy worker Bridget Crosby. “We don’t even open the boxes. But we’re not anticipating that. We anticipate opening the boxes and selling shirts.”

In the event of a win, Academy will open its doors for customers who want a first shot at the goods. They’ll likely sell out, but Crosby said there will be more coming.

If Georgia comes out on top, the shirts will be donated to charity.
