Northport Police hosting teen driver safety courses

Are you worried about how your young driver will handle being pulled over by a police officer? Northport Police have a class that will walk them through it.

The “Teen and Traffic Stops” course helps young drivers properly deal with traffic stops, including advice on what kind of information police officers will require when you’re pulled over and where to store that information.

Northport Police Chief Gerald Burton said he hopes this course will bridge the gap between law enforcement and the city’s youth.

“Teens are basically a little nervous about traffic stops and we want to kind of take that edge off the traffic stops for them,” said Burton.

The latest class, happening June 6, is already full, but the Northport Police Department will announce new class dates soon.
