A woman suffered serious injuries after she was hit by a vehicle while walking near Jalapeno’s on New Watermelon Road Monday night.

Tuscaloosa Police said a driver called 911 just before 8 p.m., saying she was traveling west on New Watermelon Road when she saw the woman in the road but was unable to stop before hitting her.

The victim was unresponsive when paramedics arrived and was taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for treatment. Police have not released her identity, but said she’s in her 20s.

Members of TPD’s Accident Reconstruction Unit are investigating the cause of the crash, but preliminary findings suggest an accident with no charges against the driver expected.
