5-YEAR OLD DROWNS AT PUBLIC POOL IN JASPER

Public Pool

A 5-year old girl drowned at a Jasper public pool on Saturday.

Jasper officials are investigating the Memorial Park Natatorium drowning of Faithlynn Blankenship. Police say there were eight state-certified lifeguards on duty when the accident happened. Reports say a bystander heard one lifeguard ask another if the girl was ok while pointing in the pool.

Blankenship was transported to the hospital after several attempts of CPR.

Police say they will review the lifeguard training to prevent future incidents.

Jasper Mayor David O’Mary is asking for prayers from the community after the incident.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help cover burial expenses for Blakenship’s family.
