LAWMAKER CONSIDERING LEGISLATION TO CUT STATE DOE

An Alabama lawmaker is considering a legislation designed to get rid of the Alabama Department of Education.
Representative Ed Henry of Hartselle said it would save the state a billion dollars and put more money in the classrooms.
DOE officials report 24 million dollars out of the department’s 186 million dollar budget goes toward classrooms.
State board of education member Mary Hunter says she understands Henry’s frustration, but this legislation would hurt a lot people.
