BIRMINGHAM COUNCIL VOTES FOR MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE

The Birmingham City Council has passed an ordinance to increase the minimum wage in the city.
The proposed ordinance calls for wages to increase to $8.50 in July 2016 and to $10.10 in July 2017.
The ordinance also calls for the minimum wage in the city to rise yearly in accordance with the rise of the city’s cost of living.
And Because Alabama has no minimum wage, the federal minimum wage of $7.25 applies in the state.
