3-year-old boy finds loaded gun, shoots self in Alabama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) – Authorities are investigating after a 3-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in an unincorporated community in Alabama.
Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies received a 911 call at 8:30 p.m. Friday and responded to a residence in Forestdale, said Deputy Chief David Agee.
Al.com reports when they arrived, they found the toddler had sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.
Agee said the initial report is that the boy found a family member’s loaded gun and accidentally shot himself. He is expected to survive.
The child is the second one to shoot himself with a relative’s gun in Jefferson County this week. A 2-year-old killed himself in his Hueytown home.
