NEARLY 30 MEN ARRESTED IN TUSCALOOSA ON PROSTITUTION CHARGES

Several police departments across the Tuscaloosa area arrested nearly 30 people earlier this month on charges stemming from a prostitution sting. The Tuscaloosa Police Department, Northport Police Department, University of Alabama Police Department and the Tuscaloosa County Jail worked in conjunction with the 16th National Johns Suppression Initiative between Aug. 10 and 11 and Aug.

TWO TUSCALOOSA MEN INDICTED FOR SERIES OF ARMED ROBBERIES

A federal grand jury Wednesday indicted two Tuscaloosa men in connection with a series of armed robberies in Tuscaloosa County between December 2018 and April. Jose Antonio Brown, 34, and 28-year-old Kelvin Quntavius Thomas are charged with robbing a Chevron gas station and three Dollar General stores, as well as the employees of said stores.

NORTHPORT MAN ARRESTED ON CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES

A Northport man is behind bars and facing charges for possessing child pornography. Agents with the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation arrested 26-year-old Nathan King and charged him with five counts of possession of child exploitation material. TUSCALOOSA COUPLE REMEMBERS KATRINA 13 YEARS LATER

It’s been 13 years since Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast. The devastating storm made landfall between Grand Isle, Louisiana, and the mouth of the Mississippi River on Aug. 29, 2005. The Federal Emergency Management Agency called Katrina “the single most catastrophic natural disaster in U.S. history.” Winds reached speeds up to nearly 130 mph.

INMATE WHO ESCAPED FROM CHILDERSBURG STILL MISSING

An Alabama inmate who escaped from the Childersburg Community Work Center on Aug. 28 is still missing. Marcus Jermaine Smith, 35, escaped from the center Tuesday morning.
