BIRMINGHAM — Alabama state officers are investigating two Alabama wildfires for possible arson, State Fire Marshal Scott Pilgreen said.
Pilgreen said a fire that burned across DeKalb County is under investigation, as well as a series of three blazes along Interstate 65 north of Birmingham last week. While no arrests have been made, Pilgreen said officers have issued misdemeanor citations to people who allegedly violated a statewide burn ban.
The Alabama Forestry Commission reported about 1,100 wildfires have damaged more than 12,500 acres in the last month. The agency attributes most of the fires to carelessness, but the causes of most of the wildfires is unknown.
