OXFORD, Ala. (AP) – One person is dead following a shooting that involved police in eastern Alabama.

News outlets report that police in Oxford say a chase began early Monday after someone stole a vehicle at gunpoint.

A driver allegedly opened fire on police on Interstate 20, and officers shot and killed a suspect after returning fire at an intersection off the interstate. No police were hurt, and authorities haven’t released the name of anyone involved.

Oxford Police Chief Bill Partridge says on social media that a news conference is planned later Monday about the shooting.
