1 DEAD, 2 ON THE RUN AFTER HOMEOWNER SHOOTS AT BURGLARS
UPDATE 1 p.m.: The man who was shot by a homeowner during a burglary attempt has been identified as Raheem Stubbs, 22, of Center Point.
BIRMINGHAM – Sheriff’s deputies say an 8-year-old boy was home alone when three men attempted to burglarize his home. The child called 911 and his father, who came home and shot one of the suspects.
It happened just after 4:15 p.m. Thursday, in the 1900 block of Springlake Court near Center Point.
Deputies said they arrived to find a man on the floor suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Deputies said the 8-year-old had just arrived at home and was alone when he called his father and told them three men were knocking on the doors. The child hid under a bed, and the father came home and discovered the men had broken into the home. He confronted the burglars and fired shots from a handgun.
Two suspects fled on foot, and are still on the run. The name of the deceased has not yet been released, and the investigation is ongoing.
