1 dead, 1 injured in Sunday shooting at Cottages at Lake Tamaha

One person is dead and investigators are searching for answers after a shooting Sunday night at a Tuscaloosa apartment complex.

Tuscaloosa Police were called to the front gate and pool area of the Cottages at Lake Tamaha, located off Jack Warner Parkway near Nucor Steel around 11 p.m. Sunday.

Two people arrived at DCH Regional Medical Center, via private vehicles, with gunshot wounds soon after the call. One of those people, now identified as 22-year-old Dontavius White, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The other person who was shot, an 18-year-old man, is expected to survive.

The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation and learned the shooting happened during a large gathering.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
