$1.5M MCDONALD HUGHES CENTER RENOVATIONS BEGIN
The McDonald Hughes Community Center is getting some big upgrades this year.
Improvements include the construction of a canopy allowing visitors to get out of cars safely during rain, new flooring in the gym and an indoor playground. Restrooms are also being updated.
The project is being funded by Elevate Tuscaloosa, and rings in at about $1.5 million.
Everything being upgraded or added was requested by community members who regularly use the center.
“Participants who attend weekly exercise classes are thrilled to have a safeguard from inclement weather as they enter and exit the Hughes Center,” said District 2 Tuscaloosa City Councilor Raevan Howard in a statement. “And the playground unit, with its bright colors, will be a pulse for children attending the center. When the project is finished, those who attend the center will hopefully find their visit more comfortable and pleasurable.”
Renovations are expected to be completed by Oct. 23.
